“Steve Roach’s new purely atmospheric statement hovers within a warm and embracing expression of etheric ambience. One Day of Forever pulls back the layers of memory, time and perception to express life’s amber-lit emotions, continuing an intimate, mystical-revealing vision within Roach’s work.
The pieces began with a minimal collection of instruments leading to emotive sonic choices which paint the impressionistic realm contained in each of the album’s five long-form pieces. The core of the release is built around the beguiling sound of the Mellotron (a 1963 English instrument, but here performed on a Swedish digital version) and emotional warmth of the Oberheim OB-X8.
At the center of the album is “One Day,” a stirring collaboration between Steve and electric violist Linda Kohanov resulting in a hybrid of classical and ambient undercurrents. On the closing piece additional acoustic sources add to the emotional palette of the Mellotron and Oberheim with the warm breathing timbers of Serena Gabriel’s harmonium and the woven alluring strands of Linda Kohanov’s electric viola. The alchemy of these organic sonorities brings another new and vital aspect to Steve’s evolving ambient work.”

From the first chord of "Perfect Dream" to the final fade of "In the Eye Of Noche," New Life Dreaming presents an unbroken feeling of connection to the earth bound meditations found on Steve’s 1988 classic Dreamtime Return. Created between 2004 and 2005, New Life Dreaming is an electronic ambient release that envelops the listener in a diaphanous realm of sound, representing an essential chapter in the book of Steve's sonic vision. Since its release, the music has found its place with listeners among other classics such as Structures From Silence, Quiet Music and Mystic Chords and Sacred Spaces. This 2024 edition of New Life Dreaming was elegantly remastered by Howard Givens.

Exposé wrote: New Life Dreaming features five expansive drone pieces, extended-length textural developments that slowly evolve as they grow and change, looping and breathing while slowly enveloping the listener ever deeper into subconscious states. Within the haunting, shimmering dreamlike sequences that bask the listener in a gentle and warm blanket of sound, echoey voices fill the background, drifting in and out of phase like a morphing multicolored morning fog over a lysergic desert landscape. The effect is almost paralyzing; each piece takes you deeper until one arrives at a safe and still point where there is no thought, only experience. This is easily Roach’s finest floating ambient work in recent memory.
