TRANCE SPIRITS, the collaborative collection of music featuring Steve Roach, Jeffrey Fayman, Robert Fripp, and Momodou Kah on Projekt is a new look at the phenomena of "trance music" and its effects on the human experience.

Traditionally speaking, "trance music" is about connecting to the great mystery the mystery of illumination and enlightenment. This state of musical bliss is seen to be the grounding force for the human tribe feeling of connectedness and belonging to "the one".

The "human-ism" of musical collaboration is prevalent in the TRANCE SPIRITS recording by electronic music artist Roach, percussionists Fayman and Kah with King Crimson's Robert Fripp.

These four musical minds, each of which are unique in their experimental approach to their respective genres of creativity, combine to create a rush of ecstatic spirit-catching passionate rhythms. We planetary citizens have a unique capacity for ecstasy from repetition especially when it comes from drumming. The foursome creates many such ecstatic rhythmic-soundscape moments throughout this wide-ranging CD.

TRANCE SPIRITS sounds alive and in-the-moment, not overdubbed drum machine tricked-out trance. The timbre-rich beauty of the Middle Eastern and West African-influenced drumming from Fayman and Kah is the base of the trance experience on this recording. Roach is the great unifier, expressing his sonic experimentations throughout and mixing in a wide array of electronics, hybrid percussion, prehispanic flutes and his own style of guitar-based atmospheres. The synthesized guitar soundscape contributions of Fripp on three cuts adds a reflective surface on which the trance spirits traverse the universe. Roach and Fripp are a natural fit to this mix, providing the minds-eye of the electronic soul to the heartbeat of the trance pulse of the planet, captured so masterfully by Fayman and Kah.

Grounded in the moment, yet, reaching for the ecstatic state of trance illumination, TRANCE SPIRITS is a great soundtrack for reconnecting to the planetary trance in these troubled times.

TRANCE SPIRITS by Steve Roach, Jeffrey Fayman, Robert Fripp and Momodou Kah represents the next step in genuine tribal ambient soundscapes. This amazing gathering of artists makes a magnificent leap into the future of acoustically-fused electronic music.

Five of the seven pieces are driven by a complex juggernaut of authentic African percussion, performed as long-form groove trance pieces by Fayman and Kah. As opposed to just using loops to conjure the desired mood, TRANCE SPIRITS is a real continuum of time, with subtle evolution within the tracks. Entwined with the shamanic / trance-inducing soundworlds created by Roach, and augmented by Fripp on three tracks, the combined effect unleashes the primal forces of nature with a boiling undercurrent of rich, transporting textures.
