The first and finer of the two Roach/ Rich collaborations, STRATA is an amazing aural voyage that organically meshes the sounds of synths, didgeridoo samples, hand percussion, flute, and steel guitar, although not necessarily in that order. These two masterful and highly prolific sound sculptors perform 10 compositions that are ablaze with imagination. The sinuous, exotic percussion of "Mica" plays like a sensual jungle dance; the intense electronic ebb and flow of "Magma" transports you into volcanic caverns; and the psychedelic ambience of "Persistence Of Memory" effectively translates Salvador Dali's famous surreal painting of the same name into sound. STRATA provides an ideal soundtrack for lucid dreaming.
