A 30th Anniversary Tribute to Steve Roach's Structures From Silence
2014 Free Floating Music FFM30 (CD)
How do I begin to put into words my thoughts and feelings regarding STRUCTURES FROM SILENCE? For me, STRUCTURES FROM SILENCE is like food, or water, or clothing. It is not music in the traditional sense. It is a place for the mind, body, and spirit to inhabit. It has surrounded and nourished me through almost every aspect of my life; every emotion, every major event, every mundane task. It has been my reading companion, my nursemaid, my co-worker, my therapist. My quiet friend.
|Possibilities of Circumstance|
2013 Projekt PRO295 (CD)
Carrying on the tradition of Projekt's unique multi-artist collections, POSSIBILITIES OF CIRCUMSTANCE is an international gathering of electronic and ambient artists featuring seven previously unreleased tracks. Steve's piece "Consumed by Sunlight" was recorded this Summer; a preview from an upcoming release created over 2013, SPIRAL MEDITATIONS, containing shimmering, spiraling and uplifting pieces full of light and energy. Look for it early 2014.
|Amplexus: Collected Works|
1997 Projekt PRO72 (CD)
The artists created these three, 20-minute pieces for the Amplexus series in Italy, originally presented on a 3-inch CD, each limited to 1000 copies. Roach and Vidna Obmana draw from the tribal-ambient well, while Brennan provides a driving, hypnotic sequencer-style piece.
1994 Celestial Harmonies 14102 (CD)
With well over two decades of history releasing music on the cutting edge, Celestial Harmonies founder Eckart Rahn had to sort through hours of historically significant material for MUSIQUE MECHANIQUE, a double CD retrospective of influential electronic compositions. His music selection and sequence does not begin to cover the wealth of consequential material his labels have presented over the years. However, this collection does offer a worthy overview of the genre while also giving listeners a chance to experience some classic long–form pieces that travel deeply into the fabric of sound, time and space manipulation that is the hallmark of great electronic music.

This cross-section of the best and brightest stars on the ethnographical plateau is not only one of the most representative of the genre, it's one of the few collections worth owning. O Yuki Conjugate leads things off in a ghostly fashion with the ominous "Insect-Talk (Dry)" six minutes of eerie percussives, hushed chants, ganking bass and nocturnal electronics. Vidna Obmana's "The Embrace in Motion" shows how influential his recent mindmelds with Steve Roach have been as he explores the same morass of electronic primordialism to chilling effect, while Roach himself chimes in with "Before the Sacrifice", featuring tribal, penetrating hand-struck percussions and canyon-deep chords of synth that envelop you totally. Jorge Reyes dabbles in yet more of his singular acoustic prehispanics, while the mysterious Belgian troupe known as Hybryds explores infinitely frightening realms on "Orca". Temps Perdu? continue to amaze with "Rano Raraku" which suggests murky abyssal depths but has cosmic overtones as well. And there's further remarkable contributions from the likes of Jeff Greinke, Alio Die, Paul Schütze (deep-space electronics mixed with Hassell-like ethereal beats), Voice of Eye, Dino Oon & Konrad Kraft and Human Flesh." -- Darren Bergstein, i/e Magazine
