Hypnos / Binary & Projekt present...
An Evening of Visionary Electronic Music
Steve Roach Paul Ellis opening
Aladdin Theater, Saturday June 29, 2002, 7:00 pm.
Opening the concert will be Portland's own accomplished longtime electronic artist Paul Ellis, whose dynamic and melodic sounds heard on his most recent "Into the Liquid Unknown" (Hypnos / Binary) has brought accolades worldwide and placed in several top-twenty essential release lists for 2001.
Both artists work in a solo setting building from a myriad of instruments. Roach is well known for his magical concerts that feature an organic-electronic blending from didgeridoos to digital synthesizers along with extensive sound processing in the moment. As one of the few electronic-based artists performing live consistently for over 20 years, Roach's engagements have taken him from concert halls in the United States, Canada, and Europe, to lava caves in the Canary Islands and volcanic craters in Mexico. These exotic settings have helped him further shape his art form, a sonic vision that thrives in a sphere beyond categories, national boundaries, cultural barriers, and quite often, time itself.
Paul Ellis has been recording and releasing music in both solo and group settings for a dozen years and was a founding member of Dweller at the Threshold, an electronic trio who tapped into the roots of European Electronic music. His solo sound has evolved into an artful combination of intriguing sound creation, highly crafted melodic forms and interwoven rhythmic patterns.
This rare concert at the Aladdin will offer an exciting look into the live sound worlds of these two diverse electronic artists. It's the music born of imagination, rich in its ability to conjure visual imagery and inspire the creative mind.
